Four crews qualify direct to semi-finals on World Junior opening day
The GB Junior Team in Brandenburg today won three of their heats outright with these crews qualifying directly for the semi-finals on Friday.
The men’s four were fourth after 500m but dominated the second half and looked impressive in winning by clear water.
The women’s and men’s quads both had to move through their fields to win their races.
The fourth direct qualifier for the semi-finals was the men’s eight who finished third.
The three remaining crews race in Thursday’s repecharges. The men’s coxed four were third today while the women’s eight were second to last year’s junior world champions, Romania. Both crews have a chance to qualify for the finals tomorrow by finishing either first or second.
Nick Baker has a tough task in the huge field in the men’s single and must finish in the first two places tomorrow to qualify for the semi-finals on Friday.
The Championships organisers in Brandenburg were delighted today with the presence of a large crowd which included great vocal support from the many British supporters in the stands.
