Jackie Wardell – Itchen Imperial’s junior co-ordinator and mentor

Jackie Wardell has been junior coordinator at Itchen Imperial Rowing Club for the last four years and alongside organising the junior coaching sessions, coaches, crews, boats, safety and welfare of the juniors, she has organised the junior regatta held at Itchen Imperial rowing club at the end of the coastal rowing season.

Jackie also coordinates the juniors – motivating them not only on the water and with training but also looks after their welfare and makes sure their schooling is not being affected by training. We have a number of junior girls who since joining Itchen have ‘come out of their shells’ according to their parents who said ‘they were so shy but now have made lots of friends’.

This year Jackie has continued to progress her own knowledge of rowing/coaching by starting the new UKCC Level 3 course, with the aim of helping to develop more crews to a higher level.
