Eight GB Rowing Team crews affected as racing is cancelled for the day at world champs
Racing has been abandoned for the remainder of day one at the World Rowing Championships in New Zealand due to continuing high winds, FISA (the world rowing federation) has announced.
“The latest weather report shows that the wind will not die down today so racing is cancelled for the day”, said FISA chief executive Matt Smith.
All eight GB Rowing Team crews who did not race today will now race tomorrow in an extended heats schedule starting at 10.05 local time (21.05 UK time).
Consideration will be given to moving the Championships’ entire semi-final programme, plus the finals of the adaptive (Paralympic class) events into Wednesday’s schedule as storms are predicted for the Karapiro area on Thursday 4 November. A decision on this will be taken tomorrow. Earlier Hester Goodsell and Sophie Hosking, winners of their heat of the lightweight women’s double scull, and the lightweight men’s pair of Chris Boddy and Adam Freeman-Pask were the only GB crews to have completed their races.
