Falmouth claims 10th consecutive Ladies Newquay Gig Championships title

Ladies Newquay Gig Championships

This weekend saw an eventful end to a season’s racing with the Newquay Gig Championships, in Cornwall.

A total of 88 crews braved the wind and rain to compete in the championships, which saw Falmouth Ladies secure their 10th consecutive win in impressive style.

Saturday’s racing had to be called off after 15 races, due to breaking waves in the harbour mouth which caused crews trouble launching and recovering their boats.

This meant that on the Sunday, crews making the final had to race four times in one day.

Falmouth ladies stormed to victory in the final, finishing several lengths clear of second-placed Charlestown.

Crew member Karen Beswetherick celebrated her tenth victory as a member of Falmouth Ladies crew, a remarkable achievement.

Final results:

1. Falmouth

2. Charlestown

3. Mounts Bay

4. Newquay

5. Dutch

6. Caradon
