City of Bristol host an indoor event for all
Competitors of all ages and ability travelled from far and wide to compete at the City of Bristol Rowing Club Indoor rowing event on Saturday 19th October. This second annual indoor rowing competition to be run by the Club took place at Ashton Park Sports Centre and the organisers were delighted with the turn-out.
More than 125 rowers took part, with racing over 2000m, a triple challenge of 2km, 1km and 500m, as well as the ever-popular relay events. The rowers came from online rowing clubs, boat clubs, universities, schools as well as individual entries.
The fastest time of the day was delivered by Ollie Osborne of ‘Q-power’ who rowed 2,000m in a time of 6:09.4. The women’s equivalent was won by Jo Hill of ‘Wrekin Rowers’ with an impressive time of 7:06.8.
However, the stand-out performance for many came from Charles Morley, a regular on the indoor rowing scene who, at 82 years old, completed 2km in 9:42.7 to a huge round of applause. At the other end of age scale, junior rowers competed using the ‘Go Race Indoors’ structure, rowing a set time for their age group.
The relay races provided some fast-paced action, with Q power coming out on top of the adult section, and Calstock Rowing Club winning the junior category. The event was also supported by Ella Willot and her para-rowing squad from Marlow who competed in the 2,000m racing.
The event was a great success and thanks go to the volunteers from City of Bristol for their excellent organisation throughout the day. Prizes were presented by Martin Downey, Club Captain, who had earlier taken part himself, completing the triple challenge.
