Munich test ends in four medals for GB Rowing Team Juniors
The GB Rowing Team’s juniors returned from the Munich Junior International over the weekend with two silvers and two bronzes as they continue their early preparation for the World Junior Championships in the summer.
GB’s junior men’s and women’s quads both took silvers yesterday and the men’s eight won bronze to add to the junior women’s double bronze from Saturday.
With many other nations race-ready in preparation for the European Junior Championships in the next few weeks, this was a creditable haul for GB who do not generally enter the European Juniors as they clash with the National Schools Championships in the UK.
GB Team Manager John Layng said: “I was pleased that our team in Munich was able to step up from Saturday into Sunday and we know that means they can move forward again for the summer.
“This event is an ideal testing regatta for us. It gives our rowers some great experience and the opportunity to race with other World Championships medal hopeful crews”.
The Germans were understandably strong on their home waters, using the event as a selection regatta so that each event was brimful of their national composite and regional crews.
Racing was delayed by 90 minutes on Saturday to allow thunderstorms to pass through but otherwise the racing conditions were very fair over the weekend.
