British Rowing supports Clean Sport Week
Clean Sport Week (10-17 July) is a campaign to highlight the extensive work being done by UKAD and its partners to ensure sport in the UK is clean
British Rowing strongly believes in the fight against doping at all levels of our sport and we are committed to keeping our sport clean through on-going and extensive education programmes.
As part of Clean Sport week we wanted to share some of the activities that take place, behind the scenes, in order to make this happen.
Staff
- We have a full time anti-doping and integrity officer.
Education
- We have a team of anti-doping educators, who have been trained by UK Anti-Doping, to assist with the delivery of the programme of education. It’s important to emphasise that this education is not only delivered to our Olympic, Paralympic and high performance athletes and their coaches, but also to club rowers and coaches. We believe that engaging rowers and coaches from grassroots to high performance will help to embed and encourage a wider culture of clean sport throughout rowing.
Stakeholders
- We work closely with UK Anti-Doping who provide excellent support, and other key stakeholders in sport to share ideas, engage in research and implement new initiatives.
Communications
- We regularly promote clean sport to rowers through our social media channels, website and emails. This serves as a regular reminder for rowers what tools are available to them to ensure they continue to compete clean and where to go for further support and information.
Event Support
- We offer support for rowing events and competitions in how to promote clean sport and remind competitors of their responsibilities. Recently, we released a Clean Sport Toolkit for events and competitions that provides advice on how to prepare for a possible visit from UK Anti-Doping’s Doping Control Officers.
Nutritional Guidance
- Our GB Rowing Team nutritionist has made a free nutrition guide for high performance rowers and it is freely available to our members. We are looking to develop this even further as a key resource to support the performance aspirations and health of rowers.
Outreach
- We host outreach events, attending competitions and events throughout the year to promote and actively talk to rowers about clean sport. Being present and accessible to rowers has been key to raising awareness of our work in this area across the sport.
It won’t end there either; we are constantly looking for new ways to improve the delivery of our clean sport messages.
