British Rowing votes through new governance structure

British Rowing’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) has voted through the new Memorandum and Articles of Association of British Rowing

Saturday, 14 October, 2017 – Today, British Rowing’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) has voted through the new Memorandum and Articles of Association of British Rowing.

The changes to the Memorandum and Articles of Association of British Rowing allow the governing body to evolve the governance structure and effect change that is in the long-term interests of the sport, while ensuring that British Rowing is compliant with the UK Government’s Code for Sports Governance, a requirement if it is to continue to receive public funding.

The change to the governance structure was voted through with an overwhelming majority of 97% – more than the 75% needed for the changes to go through.

Commenting on the decision by regional representatives at the AGM, Annamarie Phelps CBE, Chairman of British Rowing, said: “I am delighted that the sport has voted through these changes. We have worked hard over the past few months to listen and consult with the rowing community in order to develop the right governance structure that will help to safeguard the future of the sport.

“As today’s vote shows, we have a passionate and engaged community that are all committed to achieving the best outcome for the sport.”
