5 tips for writing a nomination

Each category has awarding criteria. Carefully check the criteria to ensure your nomination is eligible and suitable for the category you are nominating in.

Once you have chosen the most suitable award, here are five tips for making your entry shine:

1. Get off to a good start

Award panellists will often have dozens of entries to read, so write an exciting intro and make your best points first.

2. Stick to the point and be succinct

Use bullet points and short paragraphs to structure your entry. This will enable you to stick to the point and to organise the information in an easy-read format, which will help the panellists too.

3. Back it up

Back up your facts with evidence and detail. Use statistics where possible, include any research you undertook to measure the impact of a rowing programme or project.

4. Include feedback and endorsements

Including feedback, especially from those impacted by the person you are nominating as this can be very persuasive and it could be the difference between two strong entries.

5. Be reassured that nominations are confidential

We only share the information in your nomination with our panellists, who agree to the British Rowing Privacy Policy, so you can be confident that any relevant sensitive information you include (such as an medical condition someone was dealing with) will remain confidential.

Finally, remember that these awards are judged on the content and not the number of nominations received; you can give your nominee the best chance of winning by working with others to craft one really strong nomination.
