2 April update on coronavirus

We have today taken the decision to extend the suspension of British Rowing-run and managed events until 30 June and continue to advise that Affiliated Competitions do not run for the same period. This is in light of the current situation across the UK and the outlook in relation to coronavirus (COVID-19) over the next few months.

We have made this decision as the number one priority for British Rowing is public health and the wellbeing of all those who attend our events and Affiliated Competitions. It is important that the rowing community does everything to strictly follow the Government’s advice on non-essential travel and social distancing and we believe this decision will help provide clarity on the application of this guidance and certainty for events during this period. Our advice for Affiliated Clubs remains as previously published.

In addition, we are extending the closure of our office in Hammersmith and the National Training Centre in Caversham until further notice.

We continue to monitor the situation on a regular basis and will provide updates beyond June as more information becomes available.

This decision will affect a number of planned British Rowing events including, unfortunately, the cancellation of the 2020 British Rowing Masters Championships. Following a review of possible alternative arrangements, it has also been decided to now cancel the previously postponed Shape Rowing’s Future Discussion Day. A full list of events (including those previously cancelled) is available below.

FAQs for Affiliated Competitions

Should I cancel my event if it is taking place after 30 June?

At this stage, the situation over the next few months is unclear and so it is advisable to make sure you understand the implications of any future cancellation so you can plan ahead, monitoring the likely scenarios and ensure you minimise the impact on your volunteers, competitors and your event itself. You shouldn’t feel the need to wait for British Rowing to make a nationwide decision if you feel the right decision for your event is to cancel/postpone.

Can I reschedule my cancelled event for later in the year?

The National Competition Committee will not consider any calendar changes for postponed Affiliated Competitions until the situation becomes clearer. Thank you for your understanding with this difficult situation.

How will this affect the Ranking Points Index?

We also recognise that the disruption to competitions will have an impact on the Ranking Points Index and, at an appropriate time, will be reviewing any actions that may be required to mitigate this.
