Two more British Rowing Championships to return for 2021
British Rowing has announced that the Junior Champs and Offshore Champs will return on the weekend of 16-18 July
Following last year’s COVID-19 cancellations, we are delighted to confirm the intention to run both the British Rowing Junior Championships (BRJC) and British Rowing Offshore Championships on the weekend of 16 to 18 July.
The Junior Champs will return to the National Water Sports Centre in Nottingham. Plans are being drawn up to allow the competition to take place in a COVID-Secure format based on what we currently know about the Government’s Roadmap – unfortunately this will require some changes to the normal arrangements for the event.
After careful consideration, we regret that there will be no J14 events at the 2021 British Rowing Junior Championships. This decision has been taken as we are not confident that it would be possible to deliver a COVID-Secure version of the J14 Omnium and extra time being required to deliver the other age categories (due to the need to maintain social distancing in boating areas).
We are confident that J14’s will be catered for at various other competitions that we have been working in consultation with this year and the plan is for J14 racing to return to the Junior Champs in 2022. We are further excited at the possibility of an increased entry for J16 and J18 boats ahead of the rescheduled Henley Royal Regatta. We recognise the need to promote racing for all juniors and continue to research a date for a 2021 Junior Inter-Regional Regatta (JIRR).
The British Rowing Offshore Championships and Beach Sprint Championships will take place on the same weekend in Exmouth. The Offshore Championships will be held on the 16-17 July with the Beach Sprint Championships taking place on Sunday 18 July.
More information about both competitions will be published in the near future (we anticipate publishing the British Rowing Junior Championships Notice of Competition later this week).
