British Rowing will continue its long-standing boat supply relationship with Janousek and Stampfli Boats Ltd across the flagship Start programme. The agreement will see the Start programme purchase 10 new S1 mould Stampfli single sculls from Janousek & Stampfli in 2022, which reinforces the brand as a key supporter in the development of the UK’s finest rowing talent.

Start is a talent ID programme, designed to identify and nurture the next generation of Olympic rowers in the UK. All Start athletes benefit from access to world-class coaches and facilities that support their development and there are several centres across Great Britain that provide training bases for athletes. Graduates of the programme include Helen Glover, Mohamed (Moe) Sbihi, Alex Gregory and Heather Stanning, who have all progressed to winning Olympic, World and European medals.

The Janousek shell has been a stalwart for the previous World Class Start programme, taking numerous athletes from their first stroke to national competitions. The new fleet of Stampfli boats are aimed to support high-achieving athletes who do not have the financial means to acquire their own boat for training and racing. The most promising athletes on the roster will be loaned a Stampfli to forward their ambition and maintain British Rowing’s commitment to diverse representation and access regardless of background within the sport.
