We are delighted to announce that Marieke Hagemans will become the Director of Membership and Rowing Community at British Rowing with immediate effect. She will be taking responsibility for not only membership growth but also the community and insights teams to ensure focus and cohesion as to how we support our members and the rowing community in the future.

Marieke, who has been with British Rowing for almost six years, has been leading the membership team through a very challenging period over the last two years and is responsible for developing some exciting new plans that will add greater flexibility for our members and affiliated clubs.

During this time she has also demonstrated an ability to bring together communities, challenge the status quo, and has a can-do attitude in delivering growth. As part of the Senior Leadership Team, she will be responsible for delivering key projects to support members, clubs and competitions based on insight-led decision making in line with our strategic vision Rowing Everyone’s Sport. With a deep knowledge of insights and data twinned with close working relationships across the volunteer network and committees, Marieke will bring further rowing expertise and a wide range of perspectives to the Executive Team.

A keen rower, Marieke first stepped into a rowing boat during freshers week 2005 at Tilburg University Rowing Club Vidar in the Netherlands. After taking a hiatus from the sport to work in Shanghai and study in Sydney, she started her professional career in consultancy roles in Newcastle and London. Looking to meet new people and exercise, she joined Thames Rowing Club and later Tideway Scullers School, where she fell back in love with the sport.

Commenting on her new role Marieke said: “I am delighted to join the Senior Leadership Team, and look forward to working with my experienced team to deliver ambitious projects to support the growth of our sport. It is an exciting time to work together with internal and external partners to deliver real impact.”

Alastair Marks, British Rowing Interim Chief Executive Officer commented: “I am delighted to be welcoming Marieke into the Senior Leadership Team. Her knowledge of the community and membership will continue to drive us forwards in helping to provide the best possible support for our clubs and volunteers to ensure that everyone who takes part in our sport has the best experience possible.”
