Club Welfare Officer Briefings
British Rowing’s Safeguarding and Integrity Team will be holding a further round of Club Welfare Officer online briefings in July 2023 for those who could not attend the briefings in May.
Who should attend?
We strongly encourage all CWOs, Assistant CWOs or others acting in a similar capacity in clubs to attend one of the available dates, and expect at least one representative per club to attend either a May or July briefing.
What will the briefing cover?
The briefing will cover vital aspects of the Welfare Officer role including DBS and safeguarding training requirements, use of British Rowing systems, and essential record keeping.

Safety Alert – Consider appropriate supervision
You may have seen a recent British Rowing safety alert titled ‘Coping with the behaviour of others’. Where children and adults at risk are involved it is good practice to be consider potential risks that may be outside of the environment you control, and to ensure an appropriate level of supervision is in place to mitigate foreseeable risks, or where possible to alter the planned activity accordingly.
iRowClean – Special topics
This month we thought we would signpost you to UK Anti-Doping’s ‘special topics’ webpage with guidance and resources for a number of common medical conditions that require a Therapeutic Use Exemption. As always, information can change so make sure to check for updates regularly, but in the meantime, if you or any athletes you support have specific medical conditions such as:
- Asthma
- ADHD
- Diabetes
- Hay Fever
- Emergency Medications
- Glucocorticoids or Adrenaline Auto-injectors
then have a look at their guidance.
Safeguarding and Integrity Team at the British Rowing Offshore and Beach Sprint Championships
