Two Liverpool rowers take on marathon erg session for men’s mental health
Mersey RC members Alex Hodkinson and Christian Parkinson-Meadows rowed for 24 hours each on an erg in support of Movember
When the two men announced that they wanted to do a 24 hour row, Mersey RC committee members thought they meant a group effort across the club.
Instead, the two plucky rowers took on the feat individually, each erging from 10:20am on Friday, 22 November until 10:20am on Saturday, 23 November, and covering over 350km!
Their goal? To raise money for men’s mental health via charity, Movember.
Alex Hodkinson said, “Movember has always been a massive part of me since university in raising the awareness of men’s mental health. In the year and a bit since leaving, in what I can describe as a period of uncertainty and stress, Movember reminds me how important mental health can be.”
So far, the pair have raised over £1,700 for the charity and hope to continue to raise more.
Lydia Preston, Club Captain said, “As a club, we are extremely proud of Alex and Christian. It’s an amazing feat to complete and the funds they’ve raised will go to support men access vital mental health across the country. We’re also really proud of the Mersey members who came to keep them fed, watered and entertained during the 24 hours.”
