New features added to British Rowing’s Rower Development Guide
This major update to the popular online training tool for rowers and coaches is designed to enhance communication and personalise training plans
The enhancements reflect feedback from coaches who use the free Rower Development Guide to manage athletes’ technical and physical development.
Tasks for athletes
Rowers now have a dedicated ’Tasks’ section within their Guide. This functions as a personalised to-do list, clearly outlining the activities and competencies assigned by their coach.
New options for coaches
Coaches also have greater flexibility in managing their athletes’ development.
They can now assign specific competencies to individual rowers, tailoring training to their unique needs.
If coaches want to assign a list of competencies to a group of rowers they can create and assign training plans. British Rowing has created three ready-made plans for coaches to use:
- Learn to Row: Taking those new to the sport to be able to row.
- Learn to Train: Moving those who have completed ‘Learn to Row’ on to learning how to train.
- Learn to Race: Preparing those rowers who are now training more regularly for their first race.
Coaches can easily monitor athlete progress and completion of assigned tasks within the ‘Assign and Manage’ tab. Allowing them to see who has completed their Tasks and who hasn’t.
British Rowing’s Rower Development Guide Manager, James Andrews, said “This update will empower coaches to deliver more targeted training and provide athletes with a clear roadmap for development. Please let us know how you get on with it by emailing rdg@britishrowing,org.”
