This year’s 328-page Almanack remains an invaluable reference book for members of the rowing community throughout Great Britain. Packed with photos throughout, it provides a definitive record of all racing results from 2024, covering head races, regattas and other competitions for classic and coastal formats (in England, Wales and Scotland), skiff racing, indoor rowing and, of course, the GB Rowing Team and England Team.

In the article feature, Editor Maggie Phillips reflects on the the vast changes in the sport in the 100 years between when the Olympic Games last took place in Paris – in 1924 – and their return to the French capital last year.

The Obituaries section pays tribute to members of the rowing community who passed away in 2024.

The British Rowing Yearbook section provides a wealth of key information all in one place, from who’s who on the staff, Committees, Panels and Regional Rowing Councils, to the Rowing Directory of clubs (with colour illustrations of their blades) and competitions.

It also contains the latest version of the Rules of Racing, which come into effect today (1 April) and can be download here along with a summary of changes.

Any affiliated clubs or Life Members who have not received their copy by 10 April should contact [email protected] to check that we have an up to date postal address for you.

All other pre-ordered copies are also in the post.

Maggie Phillips

A Massive thank you Editor Maggie Phillips and her team

After 15 years, Maggie is retiring as volunteer Editor of the British Rowing Almanack after this edition, although she will continue to be involved as an Assistant Editor.

Her hard work, scrupulous attention to detail, and dedication have transformed the Almanack’s look and accuracy.  Her Editorship coincided with a period when major changes in racing were being introduced, including the Competition Framework and the discipline of coastal sculling, which required significant evolutions in the structuring of results and the content of the Almanack.

British Rowing is enormously grateful for everything she has done in this substantial role – in addition to her other volunteer work in rowing as an Umpire and coach, and as a GB Rowing Team athlete in the 1970s.

Maggie is always supported by a team of Assistant Editors – both volunteers and members of British Rowing staff. For this latest edition, particular thanks go to volunteers Paddy Ibbotson and Lance Tapping.

The Umpires’ Handbook 2025

British Rowing Umpires should by now have received their copy of The Umpires Handbook 2025, which contains the Rules of Racing that come into force on 1 April. This year the Club Colours section has been expanded to include blade colours for Scottish and Welsh clubs, where known. We aim to fill in the remaining gaps for the 2026 edition.

Note that Handbooks have not been sent to Umpires with current credientials who do not have an active British Rowing membership, which is a Licence Administration requirement. Those who fall into this category should, once they have renewed their membership, contact enquiries@britishrowing.org to request that their copy is sent to them.

The Umpires’ Handbook is also available for download here.

Regional Umpiring Committees can order extra copies for trainees by emailing [email protected].
