England Rowing announces pathway to 2025 Commonwealth Beach Sprints
The Selection Policy covers the 2025 Commonwealth Rowing Association Beach Sprint Championships

England Rowing’s selection policy for the 2025 Commonwealth Rowing Association Beach Sprint Championships is now available, outlining the criteria for athletes and coaches in this historic first venture into the Caribbean.
The Championships, scheduled to take place from Friday, 21 to Sunday, 23 November 2025, near Bridgetown, Barbados. With the team size limited to eight athletes, England is aiming to send a team of four Senior rowers and four U21 athletes. The focus will be on using the event as a development opportunity for aspiring athletes looking to compete at the 2028 and 2032 Olympic Games.
England Rowing will be trialing a new confidential financial support system to ensure equitable access. Our ambition is to field successful teams that reflect the nation, and we recognise that deliberate interventions are required to address the financial barriers that would otherwise naturally exist.
“We subsidise some of the costs to deliver our England Team activity through our Sport England Talent Pathway funding. We recognise that at times there is a need to go further, and athletes will need further individual support,” explained Nathaniel Reilly-O’Donnell, Director of Pathways for British Rowing. “By trialing this system, we aim to deliver a more inclusive Pathway, allowing athletes to focus on their performance, not their finances. We encourage those who need assistance to apply using the provided financial support form.”
Registration is now open for both rowers and coaches. Selection will be made using a series of competitions outlined in the selection policy. Expanding on events used for the Home International Rowing Beach Sprints selection policy, athletes will have two more opportunities to show their ability in the hope of selection. These are the Scottish Coastal Championships (16-17 August) and the British Rowing Beach Sprint Championships (30-31 August).
James Andrews, England Pathway Manager for British Rowing, sees the 2025 Commonwealth Rowing Association Beach Sprint Championships as a key opportunity for athletes aspiring to the GB Beach Sprint Programme. He stated, “Extending the selection period to August is intended to encourage athletes to take up beach sprints after Henley, with the chance to compete in Barbados in November.”
