Volunteer in rowing
Volunteering is a great way to contribute to rowing and to make friends – whether or not you’re a rower yourself
Volunteering at rowing competitions and rowing clubs can be hugely rewarding for many reasons, particularly the camaraderie of doing something worthwhile with others, as well as building your self-confidence and developing new skills that are useful in your professional life. It is no surprise that people earn a great deal of fulfilment from giving something to the rowing community and take pride in doing so.
Volunteering at rowing competitions
At British Rowing we rely on our amazing volunteers to make our events a success. We’re always on the lookout for people who want to help out – no rowing experience is required, full training is provided and everyone is welcome!
We have exciting opportunities available at a range of events including Indoor Rowing, Beach Sprints, and Rowing Championships and in different locations around the country.
For the 2024 season, we’ve launched the British Rowing Volunteer Hub, where you can let us know that you’re intrested in volunteering, and tell us a bit about what you’d like to do, your experience and where you are. We’ll contact registered volunteers with information about opportunities and calls for help.

Volunteering at a club
Clubs always need volunteers too. Many clubs now have volunteer co-ordinators to ensure that all the volunteering roles in the club are properly defined and that there are people to fill them. Some roles can often be broken down into more manageable chunks and shared between a number of people. For more information on the types of roles that might be available, see the Club Volunteer Roles page. Then just ask your club captain or secretary if there is something you could help with!
