100% record for GB Rowing Team Lightweights
All three GB Rowing Team crews competing in this morning’s international lightweight class semi-finals are through to this afternoon’s finals.
Sam Scrimgeour and Mark Aldred led from the front throughout to win their lightweight men’s pair semi-final in 6:42.02.
By contrast Jamie Kirkwood saved his best until last with a remarkable finishing burst to snatch the third qualifying slot away from Jonathan Koch of Germany in his lightweight men’s single scull semi-final in a time of 7:03.70.
Ruth Walczak tracked Canadian Patricia Obee for 1700m of her lightweight single scull semi-final before being caught and overtaken by Louise Ayling of New Zealand. Walczak’s qualifying time in third place was 7:57.15.
A full semi-final programme of the world cup events starts at 12.37 UK time this afternoon with finals tomorrow. Before then the British women’s eight will race to determine their lane for tomorrow’s final at 10.36 UK time.
The World Cup will be televised in the UK by BBC TV Sport – live on the website and then the Red Button on Sunday 12th and a highlights programme on Monday 13th on BBC 2 at 15.00.
