Dame Di receives SRA Emeritus award
The Honorary President of British Rowing, Dame Di Ellis DBE, has received the Sport and Recreation Alliance’s prestigious Emeritus Award, celebrating a lifetime’s commitment to sport and recreation in the UK.
Dame Di received the coveted honour from HRH Prince Edward the Earl of Wessex at the SRA’s 2013 annual general meeting, held yesterday (9th July) at St. James’s Palace.
More than 200 heads and representatives from SRA member organisations rose to give Dame Di a standing ovation at the end of her speech, recognising a contribution to sport that stretches far beyond rowing.
As well as 24 years as Chairman of British Rowing, Dame Di is also a departing director and honorary member of the SRA, and has sat on the board of the British Olympic Association, Sporting Equals, Sport Resolutions and more.
She oversaw the hugely successful World Rowing Cup at Eton Dorney last month as President, and continues to be actively involved in the sport.
