Olympic Gold Winner Urges Sports Fans To Rekindle The Flame

2012 Olympic rowing gold medallist Pete Reed has called on sports fans to help rekindle the flame when the Samsung World Rowing Cup comes to Eton Dorney this summer.

One of the Games’ most iconic venues, will open its doors from June 21-23rd and tickets to see the GB Rowing Team take on the rest of the world go on sale today.

Men’s four Olympic champion Reed summed up the excitement of returning when he said: “”The World Cup at Eton Dorney will rekindle the Olympic fire we all felt there last summer. The venue is stunning, great for our sport and should continue to inspire our talent of tomorrow”.

Reed’s Olympic gold medal counterparts Andrew Triggs Hodge, Alex Gregory and Helen Glover are all back in full training and will be raring to go in front of the home crowd alongside a host of GB’s silver and bronze medallists from the Games.

Organisers are planning a series of spectator attractions to run alongside the rowing itself. Day-tickets, three-day options and family tickets are available for the event which will be live on BBC Television.

“It will be a chance to go back and feel the excitement of a big event for anyone who got a ticket for the Olympics. For those who weren’t able to be there in person last summer we will be offering the chance to enjoy the venue and feel the atmosphere for the first time”, said Event Manager, Susan Murrin.

Racing will open with heats and Repechages on Friday before moving to semi-finals and finals on Saturday and World Cup finals on Sunday.

FISA
FISA, “Fédération Internationale des Sociétés d’Aviron” in French, or the English equivalent International Federation of Rowing Associations, is the governing body of the sport of rowing. It is empowered by its 136 member National Rowing Federations, the National Olympic Committees and the International Olympic Committee to govern the sport of rowing. FISA has created the World Rowing identity, which does not replace FISA, but is increasingly the recognised name and logo for FISA’s external activities and key international events.

FISA sets the rules and regulations for the practice of the sport, in all its forms (elite, adaptive, and soon coastal and indoor), and organises sanctioned World Rowing events. It is also responsible for the development and promotion of the sport as well as providing advice and expertise for the organisation of rowing regattas, on coaching education and other matters relating to the sport and its development.
