Obituary – John Buchan
A tribute to John Buchan from Peterborough City Rowing Club, who sadly passed away on 1 January
It is with great sadness that we have to announce that John Buchan passed away on 1 January after a period of illness, aged 88.
John was involved in the sport of rowing for most of his life at both club and national level. He served terms as captain and president at Peterborough City Rowing Club. He was also a member of the British Rowing (then the Amateur Rowing Association) Executive Committee for many years.
On the water, John qualified as a multi-lane umpire and a gold medal coach, devoting many hours to enabling new generations of rowers to enjoy the sport.
In 2001, he was awarded the British Rowing Medal of Honour, presented in recognition of his outstanding service to rowing.
His loss will be felt by many people in the sport and particularly at Peterborough City Rowing Club. British Rowing would like to express our deepest condolences to all of John’s family and friends – he will be greatly missed.
