GB Rowing Team’s Freeman Pask through to final as Campbell books semi slot
Alan Campbell, the GB Rowing Team’s single sculler, is safely through to this afternoon’s semi-finals after winning his quarter-final from the front this morning on Lucerne’s Rotsee lake at the World Rowing Cup.
The Coleraine man kept a cool head, leading from the outset and holding off experienced Swede Lassi Karonen and Peter Lambert of South Africa. In the final race to the line Dmitri Weitnauer sprung a significant surprise by taking Karonen on the line and snatching the third qualifying slot.
Adam Freeman Pask will race in this evening’s final of the lightweight men’s single scull and must be now be a medal favourite after winning his semi-final.
He tussled with Jonathan Koch of Germany throughout the first 1500m with Norway in third. Cheered on by the large contingent of travelling British supporters here, Freeman Pask pulled out to over length lead in the final 150m to take first place in 7:11.46
