Tom Digby

Growing up in Henley-on-Thames, Tom would watch the famous Henley Royal Regatta every year with his family, dreaming that one day he might compete there himself.

Inspired by the racing taking place on his doorstep, he began learning to row at Upper Thames Rowing Club with the ambitious aim to one day win at Henley, his ‘home’ event. With dogged determination, Tom went on to win at Henley four times, and then his goal shifted to achieving Olympic success.

Tom joined the GB Rowing Team in 2021. It was around this time that his mum, one of his strongest supporters, was diagnosed with terminal secondary angiosarcoma (breast cancer). With the family still living in Henley, close to the national training centre in Caversham, Tom juggled the demands of rowing for GB with spending as much time as he could with her for meaningful conversations, hugs and support. While she was well enough, she would travel to events to support Tom and saw him win several World Rowing medals before she sadly passed away in December 2023. Now, Tom is more determined than ever to do her proud by living up to the ideals she taught him whilst chasing his Olympic dream.

At the Paris 2024 Olympic Rowing Regatta, Tom won gold in the Men’s eight in superb style.
