King’s College London Boat Club – Men’s Head Coach

King’s College London Boat Club is a friendly club with squads for experienced men and women and an active novice program for complete beginners. The aim of the club is to involve people of all standards, all genders and all heights in rowing, and we aim to cater for those who want to row socially and competitively alike. Our fleet of Filippis, Empachers, Sims, Janouseks and Aylings: pairs, 4’s and 8’s are housed at the celebrated Tideway Scullers School providing a prestigious backdrop from which to train. We provide coaching for the Senior and Novice squads both on and off the water.

Squad overview

The senior men’s squad at KCLBC takes in both competitive and social rowers. Depending on numbers, we usually have a top eight and a more casual four/eight. The squad competes nationally in both British Rowing and BUCs races including the major Tideway head races, BUCS Regatta and Henley Royal Regatta. Closer to home we take part in some intercollegiate rivalry against UCL, RUMS, St. Georges, ICSM and the other London universities. A particular highlight of the previous year was being the fastest United Hospitals’ crew at HORR 2022. Ordinarily, the men’s squad trains on the water three times a week.

For the following year, our main aim is to develop further as a squad and win local United Hospitals regattas. In addition, we plan to win our annual varsity against UCL and improve on our performance at national regattas.

The men’s novice squad is an integral part of the club and the main aim of the squad is to develop new rowers into competent racing crews. We intend for our novices to train on the water at least twice a week throughout the year so that they can integrate and transition more smoothly into the senior men’s squad.
