The American School in London – Assistant Coach

The American School in London Boat Club are looking to appoint a full time coach to join its
growing successful program. Over the last couple of seasons ASL have recorded some of
their best ever results at multiple events through the season and are looking forward to
welcoming their largest ever number of rowers from September.

The Role and Responsibilities:

  • Lead the J15 and J16 Girls and Boys Squads
  • Write the training program for the J15 and J16 Squads (Water and Land)
  • Look after all administrative tasks for the J15 and J16 Squads
  • Coach on the following days, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturdays
  • Manage and work closely with the other J15/J16 coaches
  • Assist the Head of Rowing with coaching of the J17/18 Squads on Saturdays
  • Assist the Head of Rowing with the day to day running of the boat club
  • Attend all Head races and Regattas along with the coaching team
  • Assist with trailer loading and unloading before and after events
  • Help to maintain a fleet of safe boats in line with British Rowing Guidance
  • Help to keep the boathouse clean and tidy
  • Assist the Head of Rowing with daily tasks at the boathouse as required
  • Keep log of any boat/blade/launch damage and report to Head of Rowing
  • Keep attendance records of every session as well as ergo scores
  • Give regular feedback to the athletes and other coaches working alongside you
  • Arrange with school each week the required number of buses needed for transport
  • Complete any other tasks set by the head of rowing which will assist the boat club

Desirables/Qualifications:

  • Level 2 Rowing Coach Qualification
  • Experience of coaching people new to the sport of rowing
  • Experience of coaching J14-16 rowers
  • Experience of rowing and coaching on the tideway stretch
  • Highly Motivated and Enthusiastic towards all our juniors
  • Physically able to assist with heavy lifting, such as loading boat trailers
  • Towing Licence, if not held then at least a clean driving licence and willing to learn to tow trailer if needed
  • First Aid Trained or Follow First Aid course at School
  • Experience of rigging boats and blades
