Win for French at GB v France Match
In a beautiful setting on the banks of the Bassin De La Beaujoire in the historic City of Nantes, this year’s match saw the French team winning the overall match by eight races to five. However there were some outstanding efforts from our GBJ16 team to win both the Boy’s Trophy and the Entente Cordiale Cup. As is becoming a feature of this match once again this year’s racing was very close with many exciting duels giving the crowds lining the bankside something to cheer for.
Congratulations to the following crews: JM1x Ben Eames from Trent RC, JM2x from Norwich, JM4+ BMS and the JM4- from Shrewsbury School.
With the match already won by France, the many GB Parents supporting on the day cheered down the final race – the boys eight (Radley and Abingdon Schools) who stormed to victory. The sun was beating down as medals were presented to winning crews by the French Delegate, Lionel Girard, myself and the Lord Mayor of Nantes. Cups were presented at the celebration dinner that evening followed by a disco for both teams.
The match and the two day training camp that preceded it allowed the athletes to not only enjoy the competition but also to build relationships with their French counterparts. Congratulations to all coaches, athletes and the very hard working team mangers CD Riches and Loretta Williams.
