Tyne Amateur Rowing Club – Tyne Youth Rowing Part-time Coach

The Tyne Amateur Rowing Club is looking to hire an individual to run weekly sessions as a part-time Coach for Tyne Youth Rowing.

About the Club

The Tyne Amateur Rowing Club, established in 1852, sits on the River Tyne at Newburn, about 7 miles west of Newcastle City Centre. We have the longest and arguably the best stretch of river for rowing in the north of England and are privileged to have a new purpose-built clubhouse with excellent indoor training facilities.

Tyne Youth Rowing Part-time Coach

Tyne ARC is looking for a Part-time Coach to join the Youth Rowing Team for the 2023/24 season. The Project is new and is currently being developed, and we have funding for four groups of 10 kids for one two-hour weekly session for 35 weeks. The goal is to develop the individuals by allowing them to work as a team and learn new skills.

Job Title: Tyne Youth Rowing Part-time Coach
Responsible to: Tyne Youth Rowing Management Group
Contract: Part-time (8 hours per week)
Purpose: The post holder will work under the guidance of the Tyne Youth Rowing management. The primary purpose is to safely coach the groups of school kids four times a week.

The Role
This part-time position will oversee coaching a 35-week course, working with pupil premium kids from local schools.
Standard week – 8 hrs of coaching a week; the coaching will be separated into four 2 -hour sessions for each school. Session timing will vary depending on the school’s timetable constraints.

Salary – £13 – 15 P/H depending on experience.
Start Date – The beginning of the school term.
Responsibilities and Expectations
1. Delivering the training program that has been provided.
2. Uphold safety requirements of equipment and assets with the Vice-Captain of Boats
3. Report/communicate to the Tyne Youth Rowing management where necessary.
4. Ensure the welfare of those in the Kids, including coaches and liaise with the Tyne
Youth Rowing management wherenecessary.
5. Ensure all boats and equipment are maintained and fit for purpose for everyouting
in liaison with the Vice-Captain of Boats.
6. Any other reasonable duties that would fall within the scope of the position to be
further discussed.

Qualification Requirements and Candidate Characteristics

Essential 

Qualifications:

– previous rowing and coaching experience
– First Aid
– Driving license
– DBS clearance (Verified by TARC Welfare Officer)
– RYA level 2
– British rowing Level 2 coaching

Rowing:

– Both rowing and sculling experience

Skills:

– Excellent communication and interpersonal
– Active listening skills
– Good leadership skills
– Able to influence and persuade at all levels
– Able to prioritise effectively
– I.T literate – Word, Google Sheets/Excel, email

Desirable

Rowing:

– 3+ years’ experience coaching
– Experience coaching juniors/or at least working with young people

Skills:

– Experience using google sheets
– Experience dealing with a range of people across all ages
