Tyne Amateur Rowing Club – Tyne Youth Rowing Part-time Coach

Tyne ARC is looking for part-time coaches to join our new Tyne Youth Rowing (TYR) team.

TYR is a new sporting initiative looking to enable young people from local schools, in receipt of pupil premium funding, to participate in the world of rowing.

The TYR programme, starting in September 2023, will be (approx.) 35-weeks and will be based at Tyne ARC. We have capacity to work with up to x4 schools, with each school completing x1 half-day session per week. There will be maximum 10 participants per school group, with a member of school staff present at all sessions. We are looking for 2 part-time coaches to lead each session. A coaching programme (incl. indoor and water sessions) will be provided in advance of sessions.

As a collaborative team sport, we want to help participants develop key life skills, including communication, problem-solving, time management and most importantly self-confidence. At TYR we are keen for rowing to be accessible to all, regardless of gender, sexuality, background, ability or location.

Our programme is supported by Henley Royal Regatta Charitable Trust and will be run in collaboration with Northumbria University, who will be working to monitor the programme.

We are looking for passionate coaches who can work positively with young people, who may likely have no experience or knowledge of rowing. You will need to be enthusiastic for the ambitions of the programme and have empathy with the students who are taking part.
