Aggar takes second gold of weekend
Paralympic and world champion Tom Aggar took his second gold of the the weekend in winning the men’s single scull at the Varese International Regatta in Italy today.
In a repeat of yesterday’s field at the double-header regatta the Londoner beat his compatriot Andy Houghton into second place once more with Spain third.
The tussle at the top of the British men’s squad in this event is providing a good spur for success on the international stage.
Meanwhile, the mixed adaptive coxed four punched above their weight to win Britain’s second gold of the day.
The crew, involving two newcomers in Kelsie Gibson and Ryan Chamberlain, won by two lengths from Ireland with Italy taking third.
“They raced beyond their experience” said a delighted GB Team Manager Louise Kingsley of the crew in which race debutants Gibson and Chamberlain have competed this weekend alongside the more experienced Naomi Riches, James Roe and cox Rhiannon Jones.
“They had a good start and built on that by rowing long and strong”, added Kingsley.
Meanwhile, in the lead up to 2012 the search still continues for a replacement in the women’s single
scull after the retirement of Paralympic champion Helene Raynsford through ill health.
