Curlew Rowing Club – Head Coach

This is a part time coaching position and will provide strategic leadership and coaching of the senior squads. Remuneration package will be dependent on experience and the actual amount of hours each week will vary depending on the time of year. Reasonable expenses will be covered. The Committee is open to discussion over the contracted hours.

Curlew RC is based in East London, founded in 1866. We are a sweep focused club, with the main aims of the season for the senior squads is to improve year on year results at WeHoRR (2023: 95th, 2022: 58th) and HoRR (2023: 95th) and progression through HWR and HRR. Recent HWR appearances include: The Lester Trophy (2023, 2021 and 2019) and The Copas Cup (2022). Recent HRR appearances include: Wyfold (2023, 2022, 2021, 2019) and Thames (2019).

Our senior squad rowers are from a mix of backgrounds: those who have rowed since school, those who learned at university, and those who have progressed through our popular learn to row programmes and development squad at Curlew RC. We have athletes early on in their rowing career through to those with international and national titles.

Athletes all follow the same land and water-based training rogramme, overseen by the Head Coach and the Men’s and Women’s Captains. We typically have set training six days a week. Water sessions are Saturday and Sunday mornings throughout the year, with additional midweek sessions on the water when light permits in the spring, summer and autumn.

Our fleet is based at the London Regatta Centre, rowing on the Royal Albert Dock, a 2000m multi-lane stretch of water with a cycle path along the whole of one side of the dock. Our clubhouse and recently refurbished gym are on the banks of the Thames in Greenwich.
