British Rowing Championships – Safety Adviser (Volunteer)

British Rowing is looking to appoint a Safety Advisor to cover all British Rowing competitions taking place at the National Water Sports Centre from 2024 onwards.

The Opportunity

With seven days of racing to be held at the NWSC in 2024, British Rowing is looking to appoint an individual to consolidate and oversee the water safety operations across three competitions; the Junior Inter Regional Regatta (April), the Masters Championships (June), and the Junior and Senior Club Championships (July).

The individual will work closely with the British Rowing Events Manager and the individual Organising Committees (OCs) and shall advise taking account of the guidance in RowSafe including the appointment of adequate safety cover.

The Safety Adviser shall be responsible for compiling an Event Safety Plan and Safety Rules together with associated risk assessments and Event Emergency Response Plan in compliance with the guidance in RowSafe. It is anticipated that much of the documentation will be made common across the competitions, although there will be specific additional requirements for each of the three.

In advance of the competitions, the Safety Advisor will liaise with the British Rowing Honorary Rowing Safety Advisor as applicable.

During the competitions, the Safety Advisor will be present at the event, and will advise the OC to ensure that racing takes place in safe conditions.

The Individual

Whilst no formal qualifications are required, it is expected that the individual will have a good understanding of the sport of rowing and the associated risks. Experience of undertaking a safety advisor role at a club or competition would be beneficial, and this role provides an excellent opportunity for an individual wishing to gain experience of a national level competition.

Expenses

Although this is a voluntary role, reasonable expenses will be paid as per the British Rowing expenses policy, and accommodation provided during the event.
