Kristine Johnson receives the 2009 Volunteer of the Year Award for the Yorkshire region
At the conference held on 26th September 2009, British Rowing was delighted to announce the Regional Volunteer of the Year Awards in recognition of the outstanding commitment and dedication demonstrated by each individual. Kristine Johnson was awarded Volunteer of the Year for the Yorkshire region.
Kris is a dedicated volunteer at Leeds Rowing Club. The junior rower who nominated Kris says ‘Kris made my first year of rowing a fantastic one! I find it quite astonishing that anyone can give up all that time and yet never appear to be irritated or tired!’ Kris organizes a junior section that is going from strength to strength, she’s enthusiastic on freezing winter mornings and spends time in the evenings sorting out who will be rowing when so that every young member can continue to improve. She always tells her rowers what they want to know and waits around to support the juniors long after her own races are over. Her organizational skills have brought a new enthusiasm and ambition to the junior section of the club which is rubbing off on all its members. What Kris does for Leeds RC is amazing and she never ever seems to want anything in return!
