Robin de Vere Green receives the 2008 Volunteer of the Year Award for the Eastern region
At the conference held on 26th September 2009, British Rowing was delighted to announce the Regional Volunteer of the Year Awards in recognition of the outstanding commitment and dedication demonstrated by each individual. Robin de Vere Green was awarded Volunteer of the Year for the Eastern region.
Robin has been a loyal servant of rowing since his university days and has been involved with Beccles Rowing Club since its opening 20 years ago in 1989. In the last five years as Chairman he was worked tirelessly to deliver the club’s new boathouse – it would have remained a dream without Robin’s intervention, not only in terms of funds, but design and construction too. Through his efforts the club has acquired a new boathouse, coaching launch, ergos, new boats for new starters, new blades and most recently, solar – powered lighting to the site which previously had no electricity because of its location.
Thanks to him club membership has trebled and there is also an impressive increase in junior membership. On most club sessions Robin is around either supporting the coaching team, or rolling up his sleeves and getting his hands dirty. The club is honoured to have Robin as their Chairman and wholeheartedly put him forward for this award.
