Oriel College Boat Club – Head Rowing Coaches
Oriel College Boat Club is looking for head rowing coaches for the Men’s and Women’s senior squads.
We are based on the Isis in Oxford and at Wallingford Rowing Club. The season is based around the intercollegiate bumps races in early March and June, and we will also look to be competitive at some external races. Oriel has a record of success both past and present, with our men holding more headships than any other college. The men are currently 3rd on the river in Torpids and have been Head of the River in Summer Eights for the past three years. Oriel’s women are ranked 3rd on the river in Torpids and are 8th on the river in Summer Eights. We are looking for driven and enthusiastic coaches to help continue and build upon this success.
Applications are now open for two head coaches (men’s and women’s) for the senior squads at Oriel College Boat Club.
The successful applicant would lead the training programme of the men’s or women’s squad throughout the year, focusing on the 1st and 2nd boats. This includes a wide range of abilities from recent novices through to Blue Boat athletes.
During term time, the coach will need to be free several mornings per week (5am-8am) and for 4-5 hours on both Saturday and Sunday. This may shift to afternoons or evenings in the April-June period, but all times are negotiable. Both roles are to begin in October 2024, with a competitive salary.
Essential Criteria:
- Experience of coaching at a competitive level
- Experience of designing and executing training plans both on and off the water
- Organisational skills and flexibility
Desirable Criteria:
- Experience coaching novice rowers and coxes
- British Rowing (or equivalent) coaching qualifications
- Knowledge of the Isis and Oxford college rowing
Applications close on Thursday, 6 June. Interviews will take place on a rolling basis, and we may make offers before the deadline. To apply, please send your CV and a short covering letter to [email protected], specifying your coaching history and why you feel you would be best suited to the role.
Salary: £7,500
Type: Part-time, approximately 20h/week
Application Dates: From Tuesday 28th May 2024 to Thursday 6th June 2024
