Auriol Kensington Rowing Club – Rowing Coach

Auriol Kensington Rowing Club seeks coaches of all experience levels to lead water and land sessions for groups of 12 to 20 rowers through the summer and across next season.

Auriol Kensington is a West London rowing club with a rich history spanning 150 years. The club boasts a large active membership and aims to offer athletes across its squads the opportunity to race at all levels of club rowing. Located a short walk from a major transport hub (Hammersmith), the club is easily accessible from across much of London.

Under the leadership of our Director of Rowing, Ian Shore, the club has embarked on an exciting multi-year journey. Our twin goals are to enhance racing performance and provide every active member with a well-defined growth path through a clear coaching and rower development structure. This focus on progression also extends to our coaches and we are keen to encourage continuous professional development by funding relevant qualifications.

Our squads have experienced significant growth in recent years and under our improved structure we plan to strengthen our novice program and expand the number of smaller squads we offer, each led by a dedicated coach with clear objectives for rower advancement. We invite coaches of all experience levels to lead water and land sessions for groups of 12 to 20 rowers, or assist across multiple squads, and contribute to our club’s exciting new journey.

Other responsibilities include:

  • Having a hand in squad and crew selection for races, attending these in a coaching capacity, and assisting with preparation plus onsite coaching
  • Accompanying the club on their annual training camp (typically first week of May, TBC)
  • Staying up to date with training trends and British Rowing guidelines.

What we’re offering:

  • Both paid and voluntary roles, commensurate with experience
  • Financial support for RYA L2 and/or British Rowing coaching courses
  • An exciting project for coaches of any level looking for a new challenge
  • All expenses covered for regattas/camps.

The club is situated by Hammersmith Bridge, on a bustling part of the towpath, where crews boating have the option to make their way down to Putney or up to UL depending on the tide. Applicants would ideally have experience coaching water sessions on the Tideway.
