Royal Chester Rowing Club – Part-Time Assistant Coach

Royal Chester Rowing Club is looking for a paid self-employed part time assistant coach to join our successful coaching team made up of the head coach and numerous (but time-stretched) volunteer and part time paid coaches working with specific groups.

Royal Chester has a range of members from age 12-80+. We are looking for an enthusiastic, self motivated and organised coach to join the coaching team, to support the head coach in activities related to our highly successful seniors rowing program, as well as assisting with a range of crew and squad coaching across the club membership.

The club has been growing in the last few years, reaching our highest membership numbers in recent years. This has created a strain on our coaching provision that we are hoping the successful candidate will help alleviate, while giving them the opportunity to learn from a successful provincial system with the ability to make their mark on the club.

This role includes, but is not limited to:

  • confidently leading and delivering on water training sessions for senior, development and junior squads
  • assisting the head coach with the development of training plans and organisational elements of the senior program
  • delivering engaging indoor rowing sessions to new and existing athletes to promote participation
  • assisting in the preparation and delivery of the Royal Chester learn to row courses, in line with the clubs development targets
  • providing racing cover for pre-agreed events, including trailering
  • communicating effectively with squad members, squad captains and the club committee in matters relating to rowing performance and development.

This role description is a minimum requirement and may be expanded. The role may also be adapted to fit in with other part time coaching roles in the region or other part time work if suitable. These expansions of the role will be discussed with a successful candidate if deemed appropriate, before their appointment.

Personal Specification

Essential Criteria
  • Excellent verbal, written communication and IT skills
  • Ability to work remotely and self-motivated
  • Full UK Driving Licence, with the ability to tow a trailer or willing to learn.
  • UKCC Level 2 Certificate in Coaching Rowing or relevant experience in coaching rowing. (or willing to work towards qualification)
  • RYA Powerboat Level 2 Certificate. (course could be taken before starting role).
Desirable Criteria
  • Safeguarding & Protecting Young People Course
  • Valid first aid qualification
  • Experience of either rowing or coaching within a performance squad atmosphere.

The successful candidate will be subject to an Enhanced DBS check (previously a CRB check).
