England Team selected for the 2024 Home International Rowing Regatta

The Home International Rowing Regatta – between England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland – takes place on Saturday 27 July at Strathclyde Park, Scotland

This year saw a record 111 boats from 63 clubs enter the selection trials at Holme Pierrepont, Nottingham. Following the trial, a total of 64 athletes from 32 different clubs have been selected to represent England at the Home International Rowing Regatta across 20 events. Many of these athletes are coming straight from winning medals at the British Rowing Junior and Senior Club Championships last weekend, and are now taking the next step on the journey to representing Great Britain.

Ryne Robson (Reading University BC) was the fastest single sculler of the trialling process. Upon his selection, Ryne said: “I’m very proud that I have the privilege to compete for England at the Home International Rowing Regatta. This is my first year competing, I am looking forward to racing individually and as part of a crew. This is a great opportunity to compete with people from all over England against the Home Countries.”

A new, exciting racing format was introduced in 2022, with Para boats, quads and eights racing over 500m in addition to the traditional 2000m events. In total, England’s junior team will race across 20 events, with the senior team including 2 para-rowing classification boats racing across 28 events. Ashley Cowley (Lead Senior Coach) and Martin Gough (Lead Junior Coach) are preparing the crews at their training bases between now and the regatta this weekend, with the support of the selected coaches for each discipline.

The England Rowing Team are looking to retain all four trophies – Senior Men, Senior Women, Junior Men and Junior Women – which they won last year.

James Andrews, England Pathway Manager said: “Over the past couple of years, the England Team has achieved some great results, which I hope will continue in 2024. I’m sure the other home nations will be eager to challenge us for the top spots in the four trophies, and it will be exciting to see the racing unfold. The volunteers who run the team have been doing a fantastic job ensuring everyone will be ready at the start line this Saturday. A lot of work goes into the team to make sure everything goes smoothly, and I’m really grateful to the dedicated team who pull everything together.”
