Oxford University Boat Club – Development Coach, Facility, Fleet and Race Manager

The OUBC seeks a Development Coach, Facility, Fleet and Race Manager to join their high performance coaching team to deliver a rowing programme to win The Boat Race and compete at the highest level year-round.

About the Role

The Development Coach, Facility, Fleet and Race Manager will report to the Head Coaches and work alongside the OUBC coaching team to deliver a rowing programme to win The Boat Race and compete at the highest level year-round.

Primary responsibilities include: daily development coaching duties throughout the year as assigned by the Head Coaches; managing the boat, launch and vehicle fleet and equipment for the whole Club; Facilities Management across the boat house, grounds and gym facilities; liaison between the Boat Race Company and the OUBC, responsible for Race administration; supporting a high-performance environment within an integrated Club across both the women’s and men’s squads.

Candidate Profile

The candidate must have the highest levels of integrity, ethical behaviour, and adherence to principles of safe sport and fair play. In addition, the ideal candidate will satisfy most, but not necessarily all, of the following skills and experiences:

  • 5+ years of experience managing a boat fleet at high performance rowing clubs, including: procurement, operating a cyclical boat replacement plan, boat upkeep, operating an efficient stocking system and equipment hire.
  • 5+ years of experience managing towing vehicles, trailers, minibuses and launches, including: maintenance, servicing, training, driving and procurement.
  • 5+ years of facility management of a high-performance rowing centre, including boat house, gym, accommodation and office space.
  • Experience managing health and safety, fire safety, insurance and general cleaning / maintenance.
  • Financial management including full budget accountability for a rowing facility and fleet.
  • The ideal candidate will have knowledge of the Boat Race including experience liaising with Boat Race stakeholders or proven experience of large scale event administration.
  • 5+ years of experience as a rowing coach and/or 10+ years as a competitive rower, with extensive experience of the Championship Course between Putney and Mortlake in London. Competency in all aspects of high-performance sport, including training physiology, strength and conditioning, nutrition and biomechanics, telemetry, rigging and psychology.
  • Experience managing a team of rowing staff or volunteers.
  • RYA Level 2 Powerboat Licence.
  • Full/clean UK driving licence.

Locations

OUBC crews primarily train from the Fleming Boathouse in Wallingford and at the Iffley Road Sports Centre in Oxford. The crews also spend considerable time training on the Thames in London and at the Redgrave Pinsent Rowing Lake in Caversham.
