Help For Heroes invites clubs to offer Armed Forces veterans opportunities to row
Help for Heroes is keen to advertise clubs’ Go Row Indoor classes, on water and indoor taster sessions, and Learn to Row courses on its website
Help For Heroes (H4H) links closely with sports’ National Governing Bodies by offering ‘focus sport’ periods, which shine a spotlight on opportunities that veterans and their families can get involved with in community sports environments. From January to April 2025 rowing will be the charity’s sport in focus. British Rowing is delighted to support H4H’s initiative by encouraging clubs to contact H4H to promote club sessions that are run by qualified coaches, to their audience. There will also be direct links on the H4H website promoting the Go Row Indoor classes already advertised through the British Rowing website and also the club opportunities advertised through British Rowing’s GoRow Learn to Row course portal.
We hope clubs will look to welcome veterans with the following aims in mind, so that attendees will have positive experiences that will encourage them to join the club:
- Introduce veterans and their family members (18+) to indoor rowing
- Integrate veterans into the communities that surround them
- Increase the number of veteran members in community clubs.
Clubs are encouraged to run sessions as they would typically do so over this period, and to speak to individuals planning to attend/on arrival to understand any additional support needed, as they would for all participants.
H4H are keen to run an online workshop in the New Year with those interested, to learn more about the initiative, and ask any questions they may have. This will also be an opportunity to learn more about additional training on offer to support attendees as well as find out about funding to help make sessions as accessible as possible.
