British Rowing and London Youth Rowing partner to deliver the National Junior Indoor Rowing Championships 2025
The seven day virtual event will bring together young rowers from across the UK for a week of competition from 14-21 March 2025
Held in London since 2007 (and expanding to London and Leeds in 2024), the 2025 National Junior Indoor Rowing Championships (NJIRC) will take place online from 14-21 March. The event, organised by London Youth Rowing (LYR), hopes to encourage more young people to participate in indoor rowing, aiming to become ‘the most inclusive and biggest NJIRC yet’.
NJIRC 2025 will kick off with an opening ceremony on Friday, 14 March, followed by a week-long competition encouraging in which participants will submit scores to a centralised event leaderboard.
To make the event more accessible, British Rowing aims to help LYR deliver hybrid in-person competitions where possible, which will run alongside the virtual leaderboard. These events will aim to take place in five regional locations – Manchester, Leeds, Nottingham, East London and Bristol – providing an opportunity for participants to compete in a face-to-face setting.
Looking beyond the Championships, British Rowing and LYR hope to connect young rowers with further opportunities. This includes access to British Rowing’s new school accreditation support, as well as on-water taster sessions, learn-to-row courses and pathways for identifying talent.
Matt Rostron, CEO of London Youth Rowing, said, “NJIRC has become a regular on the rowing calendar and has become one of the largest indoor rowing events in the world. As we expanded out of London to run Active Row programmes in Yorkshire, Nottingham, Bristol, and Kent, we knew we had to make the event even more accessible to those that cannot always get to race in-person.”
Chris Farrell, Head of Community at British Rowing, said, “It is fantastic to be supporting NJIRC 2025 and London Youth Rowing, helping engage as many young people as possible to sign up and take part. It is one of the major events on the yearly indoor rowing event calendar and we want to continue to help it grow year on year.”
