Twickenham Rowing Club – Junior Head Coach
Twickenham Rowing Club is looking to appoint an enthusiastic and passionate lead junior rowing coach to join our team from January 2025.
The junior rowing coach will work under the guidance of the Director of Rowing and Club Captain and will be responsible for the overall junior rowing programme including operations, day to day coaching, and ensuring a positive environment where athlete and coach development can thrive.
Duties include but are not limited to:
- Coaching primarily weekday afternoons Monday – Fridays 4:45-6:45pm and on weekends (Saturday and/or Sundays but may vary based on the junior programme schedule and rowing events). There may be the opportunity to coach mornings should a morning schedule be required for the junior programme.
- Organise and lead regattas/head races, training camps, parent meetings, learn to row courses and other events as needed.
- Lead and oversee the entire junior programme including coach scheduling, training plan, regatta/head race planning, camps, learn to row courses and other junior events as agreed with the Director of Rowing and Club Captain.
- Develop and deliver a training program, tailored to support athlete development and progression at all skill levels.
- Coach land and water based training sessions.
- Coordinate and manage junior athlete attendance and logistics.
- Work with the club boatman and captain in the maintenance and development of the junior rowing fleet and equipment.
- Work with the Director of Rowing and/or Club Captain and team of professional and volunteer coaches to build a cross club approach and enable a team of coaches to excel in their role.
- Plan, oversee and lead all junior coach’s day to day activities and operations of the junior program with support from club representatives and Director of Rowing.
- Manage a large group of athletes and coordinate with junior parents as required on a day to day basis.
Preferred Qualification Requirements and Candidate Characteristics
- British Rowing coaching Level 2 qualification
- Valid drivers licence
- Trailer driving qualification/ trailering experience
- Powerboat RYA 2 or equivalent
- British Rowing safeguarding and protecting children
- Strong team player, communicator and able to collaborate with other coaches and club representatives
- Good leadership skills and able to create an inclusive and whole squad ethos
- At least 2 years coaching juniors and preferably at least 1 year in a leadership role.
