Crews Announced for Senior World Championships
GB Rowing today announced the crews who will compete in the 2008 World Championships (for non-Olympic classes) taking place in Linz, Austria, from 22-27 July.
They include strong line-ups in the lightweight men’s and women’s quadruple scull events – both classes in which GB won medals at the 2007 World Championships in Munich.
The women’s quadruple scull will be stroked by Jane Hall, a former world champion who battles regularly with colitis which was a problem, too, for Sir Steve Redgrave during his career. She will be joined by Laura Greenhalgh and Sophie Hosking from the 2007 silver medal-winning crew. Hosking’s father is a previous world lightweight champion. Andrea Dennis is the newcomer to the line-up. She won world cup silver earlier this year in the lightweight single scull.
GB’s lightweight men’s quadruple scull will be stroked by the experienced Matt Beechey. He is backed by Simon Jones and Rob Williams from the 2007 bronze medal-winning crew and Alasdair Leighton-Crawford has made the step up into this boat.
The lightweight women’s and men’s single scull events will be contested by Mathilde Pauls, who raced in last year’s quad, and Adam Freeman-Pask.
Daniel Harte and Chris Bartley team up to race in the lightweight men’s pair. Both have previously won world cup medals in this event in different combinations.
