British Rowing – Medical and Technical Classifiers

Are you passionate about rowing and looking for an opportunity to make a significant impact on the sport? We are seeking dedicated individuals to join our team as Medical and Technical Classifiers to support the classification process for Para and adaptive rowing.

A bit about the role

As a classifier, you will play a vital role in ensuring as fair as possible competition within para and adaptive rowing, by assessing athletes’ eligibility and assigning them to the appropriate sport class. Your skills help create opportunities for athletes to reach their full potential and will directly contribute to the growth of the adaptive and para rowing communities.

What you’ll be doing

  • Assess athletes according to British Rowing classification rules and standards. (Classifiers would likely be asked to attend and assess at least one date per year, which usually falls on a weekend or Monday).
  • Work collaboratively within a classification panel to determine an athlete’s sport class using set procedures.
  • Attend ad hoc classification workshops, training sessions, and rowing events as required.
  • Uphold the integrity and fairness of the classification system within Para and adaptive rowing.

A bit about you

Medical Classifiers: Qualified healthcare professionals, including physiotherapists, doctors, osteopaths, orthotists, orthopaedists, and potentially also occupational therapists, with an interest in rowing and disability sport.

Technical Classifiers: Individuals with a strong background in rowing, such as experienced rowing coaches with relevant qualifications (wider coaching qualifications considered with rowing exposure), especially those with experience working with adaptive rowers and/or athletes with disabilities and impairments.

Benefits of becoming a Classifier

  • A unique opportunity to be involved in Para rowing at a national level.
  • Professional development and training in classification.
  • The chance to contribute to an inclusive and growing aspect of the sport.
  • Further remuneration to be discussed on application.

If you are interested in becoming a Medical or Technical Classifier, we would love to hear from you!
