Chambers and Bartley win world places
Chris Bartley, 22, from Farndon in Cheshire, and Richard Chambers, 21, from Coleraine but now living in Oxford, have been selected for Great Britain’s 2006 World Rowing Championships team.
The duo, who won the lightweight men’s pair title at the World U23 Championships last weekend, will now take part in the Championships which run from August 20 – 27th at Dorney Lake, Eton. They join the bulk of the squad which was announced on July 13th.
Bartley, of Nottingham University who competed at the World Juniors in 2002 in the quadruple scull and came from the King’s School in Chester, and Chambers of Oxford Brookes, were also world cup gold medal winners in Poznan earlier this year.
"They have had a cracking season so far and it’s more than fitting that they should be added to our senior World Championships squad", said GB Performance Director, David Tanner today.
Further lightweight selections – and a final line-up for the men’s eight and coxed four – are expected some time in the two weeks before the Championships which take place on home water for the first time in two decades.
Entries by nation for the World Championships close on August 7th and are likely to be made public on August 9th.
