GB Win FISA Team Cup Trophy
Great Britain today picked up the FISA Team Cup trophy after two days of sprint regatta racing in Seville – after recording five wins on both days.
Matthew Wells joined the list of winners today – on a 500m course rather than yesterday’s 1000m – when he took the men’s single scull. His team-mate Alan Campbell, who won yesterday, was unable to race in the event after twisting his ankle.
The men’s four, stroked by Andy Hodge and including Matt Langridge as a substitute for the injured Alex Partrige, were also comfortable winners.
"In a sprint regatta the type of racing is a little different but, for GB, everything still seemed to be under control today. It was also a very sunny day and conditions for racing were perfect", said coach Jurgen Grobler of his squad’s success at the "friendly" international which is seen as a break in the monotony of winter training.
Andy Hodge and Peter Reed won the men’s pair with the British Army duo of Robin Bourne-Taylor and Alastair Heathcote in second.
The men’s eight and men’s double were the other two winning boats. Great Britain also took third place in the men’s double with its second boat.
