Sprint wins in Seville
British crews recorded four wins for the second successive day in Spain – this time at the Andalucian International Regatta – in wetter conditions and on a 500m "sprint" course in Seville.
The men’s pair, four, eight and single scull all won but GB withdrew its men’s double scull in advance of racing as Colin Smith is ill.
Peter Reed (pictured) and Andy Hodge pipped a Spanish crew to the post in the men’s pair in a time of 1:24.19. Alan Campbell won by over a second from 2004 Olympian Tim Maeyens from Belgium and top-ten sculler Sjoerd Hamburger of the Netherlands who tied for third place today with Sofoklous of Cyprus.
The men’s eight, this time featuring Tom Lucy at three and Cameron Nichol at four as replacements for Toby Garbett and Marcus Bateman respectively, won in a time of 1:21.38.
Olympic champion Steve Williams stroked the British men’s four to a win over host-nation opposition in 1:24.19.
"We’ve had a pretty good weekend in Seville. It’s been a nice lung-opener for the men and an opportunity to test ourselves in racing in a "friendly" regatta", said GB Performance Director David Tanner today.
