Mohamed Sbihi
Athlete Director
The Athlete Director’s role is to provide insight and specialist knowledge of elite sport and the experience of being a high-performance athlete to the Board.
Mohamed ‘Moe’ Sbihi MBE is a three-times Olympian. Moe graduated from the GB Rowing Team Start Programme, representing GB at Junior and U23 level from 2006-2008 before joining the men’s senior squad where he became a leading and established member of the team. He won bronze medals with the Men’s Eight at both the London 2012 Olympic Games and the delayed Tokyo 2020 Games. His Olympic gold medal came in the Men’s Four at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games having also won three successive World Championship titles from 2013-2015.
Mohamed also won numerous gold medals at World Rowing Cups throughout his career and is a triple European Champion. He was made a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in the Queen’s 2017 New Year Honours list for services to rowing, and was selected as one of Team GB’s two flag bearers at the opening ceremony of the delayed Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympic Games.
On his appointment, Mohamed said: “I am honoured and excited to be voted to the British Rowing Board as the new Athlete Director. I am excited to get involved and look forward to meeting the rest of the Board. I understand the importance of the role and the challenges the sport faces. The sport is changing and I want to help shape it – I have the experience and knowledge to help deliver a positive change.”
