Rebecca Edwards BEM
Rower // Women's Squad
Club: Leander Club
Hometown: Aughnacloy
Rebecca took up rowing at Queen's University Belfast whilst studying for her degree in French and Spanish.
She loved sport and was a keen footballer and hockey player but wanted to try something new and something that would challenge her. She loved the social aspect of the rowing club but also found it quite rewarding as the harder she worked the better she got. After graduating she made the decision to relocate to England and row at Molesey Boat Club with aspirations of making the national team. Rebecca’s favourite memory of rowing at Molesey was making the final of the Town Challenge Cup in the first year the event was introduced at Henley Royal Regatta in 2018.
Rebecca joined the GB Rowing team in 2019. She raced in the Women’s eight at the delayed Tokyo 2020 Games completing a lifelong dream of competing at the Olympics. She has won a European silver medal and both the Remenham Challenge cup and Hambledon Pairs at Henley. In 2023 she was part of the women’s eight that won Gold at World Rowing Cup III in Lucerne and qualified the boat for Paris with a fourth place finish at the World Rowing Championships in Belgrade. Rebecca finished 12th in the Women’s pair at Paris 2024, rowing with Chloe Brew.
Rebecca is passionate about inspiring young girls from Northern Ireland and showing them it is possible to achieve whatever you put your mind to.
She was awarded the British Empire Medal in 2023 for Services to Rowing.
